A powerful approach to dealing with negative automatic thoughts in your life:
Negative Automatic Thoughts can be detrimental to our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Before we dive deep into these NAT’s let’s first understand the key to lessening the power of these negative automatic thoughts in our lives. It all starts with Awareness.
We Are Unconscious Beings, Which Means That Most Of The Time We Don’t Know Why We Feel As Crappy As We Do
Awareness means becoming mindful of the patterns we run in our minds and bodies. The way we use our imagination to help us or to serve us. The mind, body, spirit approach is something I teaching in great detail through my program, and something we must all be wary of in our lives.
Delete, Distort, Generalize. These Are The Things Our Minds Do With The Information We Gather
This means that we must train it to understand what serves us and what doesn’t This awareness and mindfulness leads to behavioral flexibility. Behavioral flexibility means looking at life with an open mind. Accepting others opinions and understanding that we are all doing the best we can with the information we process.
Negative Automatic Thoughts Are What Our Mind Turn To Because We Default To Experiences In Our Past That Were Hurtful Or Scary
Our minds are advanced computers that are trained to keep us happy, or to keep us safe. Many times we confuse remembering with thinking, this is a huge problem. The mind and body in its never-ending journey to keep you from harm and to keep you alive, doesn’t see the difference between an imagined threat and a real one. Our job is to train it in moments of negativity and fear to understand that there is in fact nothing to be feared.
By Training The Subconscious Mind Again We Can Help It Understand What Should Be Responded To With Heightened Fear, And What Shouldn’t
